Balkan Investigative Regional Reporting Network – BIRN Hub, is opening a call for two following positions:

(1) Programme Assistant – with 2 years of relevant experience;
(1) Project Manager – with 5(+) years of relevant experience.

Position – Programme Assistant

Major duties and responsibilities:

Work collaboratively with the programmes teams to maximize productivity
Collaborate with different project teams, contributing to the entire project lifecycle
Organise and monitor schedules and see that deadlines are met
Coordinate efforts within the team and with outside consultants efficiently
Act as a first point of contact for the Regional Director: dealing with correspondence, managing diaries and organising meetings and appointments
Reminding the manager/executive of important tasks and deadlines
Typing, compiling and preparing reports, presentations and correspondence
Managing databases and filing systems
Organises and implements trainings and other events for the staff of the network and outside audiences
Assist in other duties related to logistics, as required
Maintains and develops relations with donors, and carries out other reasonably requested administrative and operational duties
Key requirements:

University degree in political science, journalism, international relations, law or social science
Well organised, able to prioritise, goal oriented, multi-tasker
Strong understanding of project and programme based planning and monitoring
Ability to collect and analyse information, with the aim to provide recommendations, and guidance
Ability to travel all over the South East Europe and interact with colleagues from different countries and backgrounds
Experience in organisation of events (trainings, conferences, missions)
Skilled and experienced in communication with donors, partners and other counterparts
The ability to be proactive and take the initiative
Excellent written and oral skills in English and at least one of the regional languages
Position – Project Manager

The selected candidate will be responsible for the management of the UK funded initiative for improving media independence in the Western Balkans, implemented by BIRN.

Major duties and responsibilities:

Responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing BIRNs project(s) activities and ensure these activities are delivered on time, within the agreed budget and to the highest standards
Ensure projects are legally and financially compliant and in line with BIRN editorial standards and best practice
Contribute to the design, implementation and management of coherent training as required, in line with project(s) objectives. This includes identifying and sourcing trainers/consultants, as required
Work closely with local and international project(s) partners to coordinate the implementation of consultancies, training/capacity building and outreach activities as well as production of media outputs
Produce narrative and financial reports for donor(s) and internal audiences using agreed templates as required
Prepare monthly reforecasts of project(s)’ budget(s) and activity plan(s), working with local and headquarters finance teams
Review trainers/consultants’ reports within agreed timelines and communicate them appropriately to partners
Represent BIRN at international and local stakeholder’s coordination meetings and engage in discussion with international donors
Line-manage the locally based project team as required
Organises and implements trainings and other events for the staff of the network and outside audiences
Support induction of new staff and carry out other agreed tasks
Key requirements:

Extensive project management knowledge and understanding and a proven track record in managing complex, multi-annual and regional programmes with several partners involved,
Strong understanding of project and programme based financial planning and monitoring
Strong knowledge of the media scene and media development processes
Ability to collect and analyse information, with the aim to provide recommendations, guidance and develop policies
Ability to travel all over the Balkans and interact with colleagues from different countries and backgrounds,
Understanding of capacity building and capacity development, and hands on experience in creation of CB programmes and activities
Experience in organisation of events (trainings, conferences, missions)
Skilled and experienced in communication with donors, partners and other counterparts
Excellent written and oral skills in English and at least one of the regional languages
Well organised, able to prioritise, goal oriented, multi-tasker
Strong understanding of project and programme based financial planning and monitoring
