Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of work Review the background documents and input provided by UNDP to obtain a better understanding of activities, key messages and context.
Discuss and identify possible stories, social media content, interviews, opinion pieces and blogposts with Communications Unit and respective representatives of the projects.
Propose and advise on visual materials (photos, illustrations, etc.) required to enrich a story/product.
Gather all relevant information needed for production/copywriting, both by the desk review and by interviewing key stakeholders and beneficiaries featured in a story.
Ensure UNDP Guidelines on Storytelling are followed, and values and goals of UNDP are reflected in each and any copywriten product.
Ensure women and men are equally represented in stories. Translate project goals/results and human voices into personalized human stories appealing to the targeted audience.
Provide UNDP with first drafts of the success human stories for comments/feedback by agreed deadline.
Provide UNDP with revised drafts for comments / feedback by agreed deadline.
Ensure timely incorporation of feedback received from UNDP into final drafts.
The language of all communications product produced within this contract is BCS.

Format: Format and length of each product Copywriter/Journalist will produce within this contract should follow highest standards for print and online interviews, blogposts, feature stories and social media posts.

No story should be longer than 800 words. The writing style should follow best practices for each specific channel and targeted audience: avoiding technical jargon and using words/syntax easy appealing to the audience. Protagonists should be portrayed in their natural, authentic working or domestic environment, in their daily action or engaged in activities that contribute to the overall narrative.

Copywritten content should focus on the process of change and positive outcomes. With an emphasis on strong writing, contextualize and design visual, text-based content as well as tailor and package key messages to be communicated to suit the audience. Ensure that the content clearly communicates the message and ensure content and message are consistent. Please note professional photographer will be engaged as needed to produce high quality photos – as per decision reached with the supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

Academic Qualifications/Education

At least Bachelor’s degree in journalism & media, public relations, communications, literature, linguistics or other relevant studies

Znanja i kvalifikacije:
Experience

At least 5 years of experience in journalism, photo journalism, copywriting, storytelling or similar field;
Excellent storytelling/ copywriting skills and ability to translate complex ideas and technical jargon into a product that can layperson can comprehend and relate to
Experience in copywriting proven by record (portfolio) of at least 20 published articles, human interest stories and/or content required under this ToR;
Previous relevant experience with UNDP, other UN Agency and international organizations would be an asset.
Familiarity with the issues related to the development work would be an advantage.
Languages Requirements Fluency in both written and spoken B/C/S languages is a must Longlisting/Shortlisting Criteria Qualifications as stated in the ToR
Evaluation Individual will be evaluated based on the following methodology:

Cumulative analysis

When using this weighted scoring method, the award of the contract should be made to the candidate whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:

a) responsive/compliant/acceptable, and

b) Having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria specific to the solicitation.

* Technical Criteria weight-70%
* Financial Criteria weight- 30%
