(date when the selected candidate is expected to start) 01-Aug-2016 Duration of Initial Contract : 01 August 2016 – 31 October 2016 Expected Duration of Assignment : 12 working weeks With the financial support of the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS) UNDP’s Rural and Regional Development Sector is implementing the project called “Applying Human Security Concept to Stabilize Communities in Canton 10” that seeks to address various threats to the security of vulnerable communities, including economic, health, personal, community, and political insecurities, their interconnectedness and how this contributes to exacerbating further the fragile human security environment in Canton 10.
The specific joint project objectives are set to contribute to:

· Ensure sustainability by facilitating stakeholder (i.e. governmental authorities at all levels, institutions) ownership;

· Enhancing the capacity of the Cantonal and municipal authorities to provide social services to decrease personal and community insecurities;

· Strengthening the capacity of schools, Cantonal and Municipal authorities to prevent discrimination and violence;

· Ensuring critical areas in Canton 10 improve local responsiveness to community safety risks and threats;

· Equalizing access to employment and economic sustainability in prioritized areas;

Purpose of UNDP’s internship programme is to:

· Provide a framework by which students from diverse academic backgrounds may be assigned to UNDP offices, where their educational experience can be enhanced through practical work assignments;

· Expose them to an international environment;

· Expose them to work of the Organization with the objective of deepening their knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles and activities; and

· Provide UNDP office with the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.

Internship Conditions:

· UNDP does not pay for internship and all the expenses connected with it must be borne by an intern or sponsoring institution.

· UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship and an intern must provide proof of his/her enrolment in a health insurance plan.

· There is no expectance of employment at the end of internship.

Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Regional Manager from Regional Office in Bihac, Intern will be expected to perform an array of duties considered beneficial to further Project development. These tasks include, but are not limited to:
· Assist in the coordination of events and activities;

· Support the RO Bihac in documenting discussions, meetings and event;

· Support the Project team in implementation of activities, trainings, evaluations (round tables/workshop), consolidation of relevant reports (summarizing qualitative and quantitative data, creation of charts, presentations, etc.) as advised by the Regional Manager and the Project team;

· Write meeting minutes, event conclusions and field visit reports;

· Actively participate in promotion of the human security concept and activities through social media and other digital media by providing maintenance of digital platforms on the project activities;

· Provide support to the Regional Office team in daily administrative and logistical tasks;

· Liaise with other agencies and partners to create synergies in implementation of project activities.

Deliverables:

· Document discussions;

· Propose new ways to promote project activities on different online platforms;

· Data entry, data analysis;

· Active contribution to the process of evaluation of project activities;

· Active support to the field project activities;

· Provide administrative support with proof reading and editing for project documents;

· Provide support in tasks related to promotion of project activities;

· Participating in field visits, if necessary;

· Maintain Project Archive and E-Archive.

Competencies The successful applicant should:
· Be able to commit to a three-month period for this internship;

· Completed bachelor/undergraduate degree related to Human Security concepts, Diplomacy, or other social science fields;

· Strong research skills, combined with writing skills;

· Ability to work under tight deadlines;

· Detail-oriented way of working;

· Ability and desire to work in a team;

· Excellent organizational and communication skills;

· Have excellent written and oral command of English, knowledge of local languages is desirable but not required;

· Experience of working abroad whether in a voluntary or professional capacity would be an advantage;

· Advanced computer skills (word processing/spreadsheets. etc);

· Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of differing socio-economic, religious and cultural backgrounds both professionally and personally;

· • Innovative orientated and creative approach to tasks;

· • Have a keen interest in the work of the UN and the UNDP and demonstrate a commitment to its statement of purpose and to the ideals of the UN Charter.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Applicant must be:

· Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

· Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);

· Have graduated and be within one-year of graduation of any of the above.

Experience:

· No previous experience necessary. Internship in rural and regional development sector elsewhere and volunteerism would be an asset.

Language Requirements:

· Excellent oral command of English, fluency in other languages would be an advantage. Knowledge of local languages is desirable but not required.
